POSITION: 

FLEET/EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE MANAGER 

LOCATION: 

FORT McMURRAY, ALBERTA 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The successful candidate will report directly to the Location Manager and perform all aspects of the Fleet Maintenance Managers Responsibilities.

 

The Fleet Maintenance Manager monitors and manages all aspects of the Maintenance Shop ensuring all company equipment/vehicles are maintained and repaired, as requested. Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • General shop supervision including time keeping and basic foreman responsibilities
  • Hiring mechanics/apprentices based on workload and in consultation with the Vice President or his designate
  • Ensure all mechanics/apprentices are properly certified and are continuously staying current with new techniques/technologies of their trade
  • Dispatch Field Repair Technicians and Units
  • In coordination with the Equipment Manager, schedule regular inspections and maintenance for all pieces of equipment and vehicles
  • During each servicing, perform a routine inspection to ensure all equipment has the required safety equipment (i.e., spill kit, fire extinguisher, wildfire kit, etc.)
  • Prepare, maintain and issue daily written Maintenance Reports and Repair Histories on all Equipment
  • Purchase and maintain an adequate supply of all items used in regular maintenance repairs (i.e., lubes, oils, belts, etc)
  • Procure replacement parts (within authorized spending limit)
  • Periodically review parts/suppliers to ensure that the best price and services are being received
  • Prepare and maintain a parts resource library 
  • Ensure that routine maintenance checks and adjustments on fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches; change filters and oil, and lubricate vehicles and motor driven equipment
  • Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts, and reassemble units
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition
  • Assist the HSE Manager with the development and implementation of powered mobile equipment program and safe work practices and procedures
  • Ensure all decisions/requests between team members are properly documented (i.e., verbal followed up within twenty four hours with an email/letter)
  • Identify and track non-routine maintenance occurring from equipment misuse and notify the Equipment Manager, Foreman and/or Vice President as required
  • Work cooperatively with HSE, the Equipment Manager and Foremen to ensure issues pertaining to equipment misuse and damages are investigated and followed-up to prevent reoccurrence

 

 

 

This position may require travel to work sites to fulfill the managers duties, as required.  As such, the successful candidate will be required to participate in required health and safety training and pre‑access drug and alcohol testing, as required by Owner/Clients. 

 

The ideal candidate shall be organized, efficient and results driven.  Excellent communications and interrelation skills and an ability to work well both independently and in a team setting are considered essential.

 

 

 

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience 

  • At least 10 Yrs related experience
  • An in depth understanding of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Operating and maintenance requirements of various types of heavy construction equipment
  • Working knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act/Regulations
